Mini-Spectrometers

Hamamatsu’s miniature spectrometers cover a wide spectral response range and also provide:

  • High-precision measurements
  • High throughput
  • Ease of use
  • Flexibility in measurement setups
  • Compact size
  • USB connectivity
  • Bundled software package (DLL, device driver,
    and sample software)

Learn more about minipectrometers:

Hamamatsu mini spectrometers are polychromators integrated with optical elements, an image sensor and a driver circuit. By merging our unique image sensor technology, accumulated over many years, with advanced MEMS technology such as holographic processing, Hamamatsu has developed spectrometers featuring a compact size and low cost.

Hamamatsu mini spectrometers leverage four versatile optical designs and MEMS-etched holographic transmission gratings to create innovative performance.

Mini spectrometers employ either a CMOS or NMOS linear image sensor or a BT-CCD detector. CMOS and NMOS detectors are well-suited for spectrophotometry at relatively high light levels such as absorbance measurement and light source spectrum evaluation. High-sensitivity mini spectrometers using a back-thinned CCD image sensor as the detector are ideal for low-light-level spectrophotometry applications such as fluorescence, Raman, and atomic emission measurements.

Spectrometer Applications

  • UV to VIS (200 to 1100 nm): light source testing (LEDs), fluorescence measurement, industrial color measurement, tooth decay analysis, detection of saccharic acids in food, taste analyzers, semiconductor inspection, chromatography, and DNA analysis

  • NIR (900 to 2550 nm): process control instrumentation, component analysis (food, agriculture, etc.), water content measurement, optical communication component testing, film thickness measurement (white light interferometry), agriculture
